2^nd International Meeting of the Signatory Municipalities of the Pelagos Partnership Charter

On 22 June 2023, the Municipality of Sassari hosted the “2^nd International Meeting of the signatory Municipalities of the Pelagos Partnership Charter“.

The Partnership Charter is an instrument allowing the coastal Municipalities of the Sanctuary to implement activities in favour of the protection of marine mammals and their habitats.

Since 2009, more than 136 municipalities have subscribed to the Charter, promoting education, raising awareness, communication and first intervention activities in the event of cetacean stranding on their territory.

For an entire day, the Municipality of Sassari hosted the meeting in the “P. Sassu” hall of the L. Canepa Conservatory in the presence of national authorities and representatives of the Italian and French signatory municipalities of the Partnership Charter.

During the meeting, the virtuous initiatives promoted by the Municipalities were presented and the proposals to improve the Partnership Charter have been discussed. Activities were planned to strengthen the cross-border dialogue of the Municipalities and to define the role of Marine Protected Areas and National Parks in supporting the implementation of the Partnership Charter.
