Pelagos Agreement at the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Fête de la Mer: Raising Awareness to Better Protect the Mediterranean

Monaco, 22 May 2026 – The Pelagos Agreement took part in the Fête de la Mer, the major event dedicated to maritime culture and environmental awareness organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco, reaffirming its commitment to the protection of marine mammals and to promoting increasingly sustainable navigation.

Throughout the day, the Pelagos Agreement Secretariat welcomed numerous visitors to its information stand, offering awareness-raising activities focused on the extraordinary biodiversity of the Pelagos Sanctuary and on best practices to be adopted at sea in order to reduce the impact of human activities on Mediterranean cetaceans.

Through educational materials, discussions and initiatives aimed at both young people and sea enthusiasts, Pelagos presented the main actions carried out by the three signatory Parties – France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco – to protect a marine area that is unique in the world. Covering more than 87,000 km² in the north-western Mediterranean Sea, the Pelagos Sanctuary is one of the most important habitats for marine mammals.

“Taking part in the Fête de la Mer means meeting citizens, families and maritime stakeholders directly and sharing the understanding that preserving the Mediterranean is a collective responsibility,” stated the Pelagos Agreement Secretariat. “Protecting cetaceans also involves environmental education and promoting behaviours that respect the marine ecosystem.”

The participation of the Pelagos Agreement fully reflects the spirit of this event, which every year brings together institutions, associations and sea enthusiasts to celebrate the sea, promote maritime traditions and raise public awareness of today’s environmental challenges.

The Pelagos Agreement would like to warmly thank the Yacht Club de Monaco, The Rotary Club Monaco and all the partners involved in organising this event for their hospitality and their continued commitment to the protection of the marine environment.
