On 25 June 2026, the Permanent Secretariat of the Pelagos Agreement was pleased to take part in the celebrations held in Monaco to mark the 50th anniversary of the RAMOGE Agreement.

The two-day event brought together institutional representatives, scientific experts and operational stakeholders from France, Italy and Monaco around a shared objective: strengthening cooperation for the protection of the Mediterranean marine environment.

The programme provided an opportunity to look back on 50 years of action carried out by RAMOGE in the fields of marine pollution response, biodiversity conservation and public awareness. Highlights included the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the Agreement’s 50th anniversary, a RAMOGEPOL operational marine pollution response exercise and a conference held at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

The participation of the Pelagos Agreement in this anniversary celebration reflects the close ties between the two Agreements. Bringing together the same three Parties namely France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco, RAMOGE and Pelagos work in a complementary manner to protect the Mediterranean, its ecosystems and the species that inhabit it.

This cooperation was further strengthened by the signing, in March 2024, of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two Secretariats. The agreement facilitates the exchange of information, the sharing of expertise and the development of joint initiatives, particularly for the protection of marine mammals and their habitats.

The Pelagos Agreement extends its warmest congratulations to the RAMOGE Agreement on its 50th anniversary and on half a century of commitment to protecting our shared natural heritage.

Together, let us continue to strengthen cooperation for a better protected, more resilient Mediterranean, preserved for future generations.
