The Pelagos Agreement is now an Official Partner of UNEP-MAP

The 23rd Meeting of the Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols (COP23) was held in Portoroz, Slovenia from 5 to 8 December 2023. We are very glad to announce that on this occasion, the application submitted by the Pelagos Agreement to be officially partner with the UNEP-MAP Barcelona Convention was approved.

During the meeting, a lot of significant decisions were made, including the reinforcement of the current network of Specially Protected Areas and Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance (SPAMIs) and the 2023 Quality Status Report, a crucial assessment of the Mediterranean’s health conducted every six years, was approved.

The Permanent Secretariat expresses its gratitude to the Parties of the Barcelona Convention for their decision to establish a stronger collaboration with the Pelagos Agreement, as an official partner.
