Call for applications: analysis of fishing gear and marine mammal bycatch in the Pelagos Sanctuary

The Pelagos Agreement is issuing a call for applications to select a consultant to analyse the spatial and seasonal distribution of fishing gear potentially responsible for marine mammal bycatch in the Pelagos Sanctuary.

The assignment will include collecting and harmonising reliable data on fishing effort, analysing information on fishing inspections and controls, identifying areas and periods presenting the highest potential risk, and proposing an appropriate risk-assessment method and operational recommendations.

The call is open to individual experts and teams of experts.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field and have significant professional experience in fisheries science, marine biology or ecology, oceanography, marine resource management, environmental science, geomatics or statistics. Experience in fisheries data analysis, interactions between fishing activities and protected marine species, spatial analysis and geographic information systems is particularly relevant.

Applicants must be proficient in English and in one of the two official languages of the Agreement, French or Italian.

Applications must include:

  • a curriculum vitae of no more than two pages;
  • a motivation letter describing relevant professional experience, projects and publications, of no more than one page;
  • a technical and methodological note of no more than five pages;
  • a detailed financial proposal indicating the number of working days and the applicable daily rate, of no more than one page.

All application documents must be submitted in English. The maximum remuneration available for the assignment is €10,000, including taxes.
